A space to express, explore and empower yourself.
Jatan is a non-judgemental, learning space where people are nurtured to grow into happy and compassionate beings.
Most people arrive carrying something they have not been able to put into words: a child who has gone quiet, a teenager under pressure they cannot name, an adult who has been coping for a very long time.
Arts based therapy is an expressive therapy that uses creative processes to support a person’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It works because it does not depend on finding the right words first. You draw it, or move it, or play it out, and the words tend to follow.
Jatan is deliberately small and deliberately unclinical. Shoes off at the door, materials already laid out, and no sense that you are being assessed.
jatan
jatan is a Hindi word that holds two things at once: effort, and care. It is the deliberate attempt to protect and preserve something. Not fussing over it, but doing the work it takes to keep it well.
English tends to split those apart. “Care” sounds like something you feel. “Effort” sounds like something you grit your teeth through. Jatan is both, and neither word on its own will do.
We named the place after it because that is what is being asked of you here. Nobody arrives broken. You come because some things are worth the effort of looking after, and you are one of them.

Priti
“Be the change you want to see in this world.”
That belief is what led Priti to study, contribute and work in social development and education, and eventually to open Jatan.
